Green Party of the Philippines conducted an environmental training and activity at Ilayang Butnong, Magdalena, Laguna on October 28, 2023. The event includes orientation to environmental advocacy, tree planting, and a membership drive. Leading the team was David D’Angelo, National President together with Jocelyn Sabio, National Treasurer, and Laguna Greens Deputy Convenor.
Strengthening Laguna Greens
The activity aims to strengthen Laguna Greens under the leadership of Deuz Luzande as the Provincial Convenor, and Jocelyn Sabio as Deputy Convenor. During the activity, more than 30 individual members joined the environmental advocacy. Present at the activity was the newly elected Barangay Captain of Ilayang Butnong, Nicol Pedreja. The youth also commits to form the Kabataan Para sa Kalikasan (KALIKAS), in Magdalena, Laguna, and helps establish the Laguna Chapter as well.
Also present during the activity was one of the green leaders of Laguna, Hon. Mayor Vince Soriano of Pakil, Laguna. He shared his strong support for environmental advocacy. Mayor Soriano also mentions his hard work and accomplishments in Pakil. Among these works are environmental projects that also support the needs of various sectors towards realizing climate justice.
Tree Planting and Environmental Activity
Around 50 trees were planted at Barangay Ilayang Butnong, Magdalena, Laguna with a total of 500 trees to be planted. The barangay will supervise the planting of the remaining trees which targets key areas to help preserve the environment.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Laguna provided the seedlings which made the activity possible.
